Free home accounting software for students

Students don’t have a lot of money, right?  But they are also notoriously bad at handling the amount of money they do have. Let’s have a look at some free home accounting software suitable for the student.

Actually if you are a student then you do have my sympathy, it’s not easy.  The majority of students do not go to college anymore for the ‘student experience.’  They are fully aware of the financial problems and many now work their way through college.  Not much time for play.  In fact the most social stuff goes on through the likes of facebook and MSN.  But with all that money, or lack of it, flying around, how can you keep tabs on it?

The answer is use a simply home accounting software package.

If you can spend a short time getting used to it, a simple excel spreadsheet is sufficient.  All you need really is a column each for date, items, debit, credit, and total.  You can set up each line to total the amount from the previous entries.

However, that all takes time, and there are even easier options.

Take for example Outright.com.  Outright is a simple accounting package that will even link to your paypal account.  I think that for students the great thing about it is that you never have your accounts sitting on your laptop.  Whilst insurance will replace any loss, you could have your hard drive cloned or cracked, no matter what your password protection you have.  That means your private details are at risk.

On the other hand, if you have your information in a cloud someplace, then it’s going to be a lot harder to access.  And what’s more, if you do get your laptop stolen, you can still access your accounts from any computer.  Just remember to have a really unique password just for your accounts to keep it really secure, and don’t choose to save your password for the Outright site.

Outright is cloud computing, and it is very simple and quick to use.  I got used to it in just 10 minutes.  Well worth a go!

Oh, and it’s free online accounting software too!!
